Hi Everyone
I have been quiet for a while but couldn't resist the chance to invite my
Great Grandma to the dinner.

There is so much I would like to ask Catherine MEALEY ( Mansfield)
Firstly I would like to know the origins behind the story that she was the
daughter of an Irish Lord Mansfield who owned a horse stud of Jumpers.
If he was Lord MANSFIELD, then why , in the 1852 Census for Liverpool when
he lived in Sparling street ,was he listed as John Mansfield
Occupation Shoemaker age 56 Years Born in Ireland c 1794-1795 ?

Secondly I would love to tell her that:
Despite the fact that for years she had treasured a faded chalice cloth and
other effects which were returned to her after her eldest son's death. That
in fact , John Mansfield MEALEY who was a Franciscan Missionary did NOT
perish in Van Daimon's Land during a bush fire when taking communion to a
miner .
death.
Oh No!
Instead (being very much alive) he married 3 times in Australia and survived
two of his three wives , only to die at the ripe old age of 72, just 2years
after his final marriage in 1928 in Orange NSW Australia .
How much did this poor man suffer after having to the poor man have to fake
his death in order to spare his family the shame of a Priest who had left
the order?
After dinner I would love to take Catherine the hand and lead her to her
son's grave and hopefully feel them both at peace with one another at last .
Better still I would love to invite him to the dinner just to see these two
embrace after the truth was revealed over the glass of Port after the meal.
I do hope no one minds me wiping my nose and eyes on the Linen napkins
i do get soppy at times .

From
Christine in Australia
