Marj in Perth,
Liverpool Records Office has really excellent facilities. Just about the only thing you can't get there, are Civil Registration certificates (you need the Cotton Exchange for them).
Some of the things I like to use most are :
Gores Street Directories (on film)
Burial records (on film) - which are by cemetery, and in date order
Calendars of Probate (about 1860 - 1951 I think) which give brief details of Wills, by annual volume, in surname order
GRO b,m,d indexes (1837 - to about 1990 I think) on fiche
1841 - 1901 censuses on film or fiche, plus the street indexes in bound volumes
Electoral registers (in bound volumes)
No doubt others will advise you of many more research tools. Have a successful trip.
Duncan , Dundee
