Subject: [ENG-LIV] West Derby or Liverpool?
Date: Thu, 4 Mar 2004 15:01:26 -0000
Hi all,
Please excuse my asking what may appear to be a stupid question, but not being familiar with the area, I am a bit confused.
I have my GGrandfather on 1881/1891/1901 census where it is stated he was born in Liverpool. The only possible references in BMD (both 1837online, and double checked at library) were born in W. Derby.
My question is this: would a person born in W, Derby, in later years just say he came from Liverpool? I realise it is possible that he may not have been registered at all, and I have checked for variations on surname on BMD. Also some of these references have a middle name but no mention on census of a middle name!
Could I ask someone for a lookup on 1871 census for a Robert Beattie, about 13 years old, mother Jane about 50 years old, father John age unknown as deceased in 1881, may have a brother also called John age about 16 years old, last address in 1881 for Robert and Jane was at Williams Terrace,
Many Thanks
Ian
