Subject: The "Akbar" - Can anyone help me please

I understand that there was a ship anchored in the Mersey during
Victorian times call the "Akbar", commonly known as "the wooden lockup".
I think this was a sort of reform school and the naughty boys were sent
there for training. That's all I know. Does anyone know anything about
this ship. Why it was there - was it a reform school - can you get a
hold of a "passenger" list etc etc. I think I may have a relation who
would have been a "guest on board" surname Marshall. Also does anyone
know anything about the Reform School in Winwick Road Newton. I think
my GGrandfather David Marshall was an inmate age 17 around 1801. How
can one find out about the crimes the boys committed, the length of
sentence etc. Great family hey.. I would be so grateful for any help
you can give me. Many thanks in advance. Rhoda Parker Canberra
Australia. PS we are having the most lovely day today, sun is shining,
no wind and a temperature of 14 degrees so beautiful but we all wish it
would rain, it hasnt in ages and there is a water shortage.
