Hi List,
A few weeks ago I asked the List if anybody could tell me anything about the above Workhouse. Although I received several suggestions it was clear that nobody had a definitive answer.
I contacted Family Search and was told that a search of their records did not turn up anything on the Workhouse but they could tell me " the author of the material was the Liverpool Workhouse and the Church filmed the Transcripts at the Lancashire Record Office in 1986."
Next stop was the Lancashire RO and this is a precis of their reply:-
The record found on the IGI comes from the Bishop's Transcripts for Liverpool, St Mary which are held here (ref: DRL 2/177-207)
This church has or had a workhouse chapel where children could be baptised. There are several churches in Liverpool dedicated to
St Mary but the workhouse is nearest to one at Walton-on-the-Hill. I am assuming that all baptisms including the workhouse chapel ones were recorded in the church's registers and not just the Transcripts.
So there we are, I hope that this will help anybody who runs into this area in the future. It has not, unfortunately helped me as it would appear that my particular entry was recorded only in the Transcripts and not the church records therefore, the main piece of information that I needed, the parents address, is not available.
Regards
Ray,
Wirral
