Many thanks to all who have responded to my inquiy about my ggrandfather, Alfred Hope. I am overwhelmed by your kindness. I have a little more additional information that may help: Alfred was 26 years of age when he sailed from Liverpool, and the same age when he applied for assistance from the Toronto Emmigrant Office in March of 1870, which would obviously put his birth date as 1843/1844. He was married in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada on December 9, 1871. He was 27 at that time, and his parents were listed as John and Mary Hope. His obituary shows his father as Frederick, and mother "unknown". I would lean toward taking the information on his marriage registration as being more correct. Maybe his dad was Frederick John?
