Andrea

My great grandfather died in 1904 unexpectedly and the family were unable to
afford a head stone. I managed to locate the plot in Anfield by the plot
number of which there was a record in the Liverpool Record Office. They are
all in date order so it would be advisable for you to get the death
certificate to narrow down the dates you are searching. You may then be able
to employ a local researcher or maybe some kind soul who is visiting the
record office might do a look up for you

When I turned up at Anfield I was told that the location of the graves was
in accordance with the religion practised by the deceased: whether RC CE or
Non Conformist. I found the plot which had the number marked on it, but
still no headstone

I think you can write to the Liverpool Registrar for the death certificate.
There may be arrangements whereby you can pay by credit card
