I would have loved to have tried pastures new in the 1950s but family commitments kept me here. Eventually my sister emigrated to Canada in 1980, and when I finally saw Alberta and British Columbia (too late, alas, in 1994) I knew I should have gone, just for the scenery!

Hello, I married in 1955 in Bebington Ches, worked in Birkenehead. I recall clearly that in 1955 -1958 several of our friends (similar age - mid 20s) left for Canada,New Zealand or Australia. The general feeling being that the future was brighter "off shore". I worked in a busy Dental Practice and can also recall that many patients had their Dental needs attend too on the NHS before emigrating.
I have to add that although in 1955 we did not consider leaving England - we did leave in 1974 for NZ. I now live in Qld Australia. Merry Christmas. Maureen
