The Loftus near the east coast was known as Lofthouse during the 1800s and
appears as such on some censuses etc. I know this as I, too spent my
childhood near Loftus and my ancestors appear on censuses as living at
Lofthouse.

Hi Peter and Lila,

Actually, Lofthouse & Loftus are NOT the same place. Lofthouse is in North
Yorkshire and is near to Ripon/Pateley Bridge where as Loftus (where I spent
most of my childhood) is on the east coast. They are about 75 miles apart!

Regards
