Wonder if I have the wrong Whitwell. Matthew and Rebecca were married in New
Malton and all children were baptised in Crambe. William's obit (my
gg-grandfather) says he was from Whitwell and on all the baptismal records, it
shows that Matthew and Rebecca's abode is in Whitwell. I thought that GENUKI
said that this Whitwell was Whitwell on the Hill, but maybe I am remebering it
wrong.

Yorkshire is the largest county in England and is served by at least 17
family history societies, each of which have indexed most, if not all, of
their own areas.

Whitwell on the Hill is covered by the City of York & District Family
History Society, and the 1851 census is indexed for this area.

I have searched this index and found no HOLMES listed in Whitwell, nor are
there any names and ages which correspond with those on your list.

York FHS now has the 1851 for the area covered by the Society census on
microfilm, and fully searchable index to the same area, at the Research
