Dear list members,
I've recently joined this list. My North Riding ancestors were a family
named Milner who lived in Scorton near Richmond from about 1775 to 1875.
Several were teachers at Scorton Grammar School and another was curate of St
Mary's Bolton on Swale. They may have been connected to the Milners of
Reeth and Muker in Swaledale. The two earliest members of the family I've
traced are;
John MILNER, born 1750, d. 1835, schoolmaster in Scorton in 1804.
James MILNER, born 1759, d. 1834, curate of Bolton on Swale in 1785,
operated the commercial and mathematical academy in Scorton in 1823
