Sheila

A search on the 1881 reveals that there are in fact 7581 Hibberd's and its
variants.

If you use the Google search engine and enter "+hibberd +surname +meaning"
you will find

HIBBERD (British). Form of Ilbert (=battle glorious, Germanic).

And my Dictionary of Surnames says that the earliest recorded entry is 1150

A search of any of the major resources will bring up thousands of entries

Subject: [ENG-ONS] HIBBERD

Greetings all,

When I lived in Kent, HIBBERD, was not a very common surname, I thought.
Recently I have been informed that there are over five hundred on the 1891
census.

Does anyone on this list know the locality of origin for HIBBERD/ARD/ERT.
Where would I
find such information?

On the B.V.R.I. I note that Raph Hibberd, Breadsall, Derby, 1875 is the
first to be recorded.
Many thanks for any revelations. Sorry this is all queries. Hope I can help
next time. Sheila
in Melb. Oz.
