Hello List,

In the coming year I am planning to embark on a FEARN study, initially for
the county of Derbyshire. This will include the FEARN, FEARNE, FERN and
FERNE spellings. Does anyone on this group know if this has been attempted
by anyone before?

I have assembled some data ready for input which covers a range of
Dedrbyshire parish records (incomplete but sizeable), and some data from
national archives indexes. I am currently designing a database (MySQL) to
input this information in appropriate data sets. Does anyone have experience
in designing their own databases for such a purpose? Any advice will be
gratefully received.

I also plan to use census data, and bmd index data, which will take the
project from being focused on Derbyshire to a national scale study. However,
I am am not looking at these until I have completed the first stage of the
project.

I look forward to hearing peoples advice and experiences.

Regards,
Michael
