First of all Happy New Year to all on the Ipswich List.
This is my first message to the list and I am hoping that someone else might
have interest in the descendants of Benjamin King and his wife Sarah. They
were the parents of sons BENJAMIN (2 May 1754 - Jan 10 1815) who became a
Malster in partnership with Jeremiah Byles and JOSEPH (26 Aug 1763 - 09 June
1838) who was a ship chandler on the Common Quay. As well they had daughters
SARAH and ELIZABETH. I have been able to find a lot of information on the
descendants of the son Benjamin who married BETT (much of it through the
kindness of Neil Langridge of the Stowmarket List) but I have nothing on the
children of Joseph who married twice and had many children. Several of them
died young but I believe that JOSEPH KING born in 1797, RACHEL KING born in
1806 and JOHN KING who lived from 1799-1827 could have grown up and had
families. The records of the King family births come mostly from the Tackett
Street Independent Church and Independent St. Margaret's although some are
buried in St. Peter's Churchyard.
I am interested if anyone has information on WILLIAM KING, son of Benjamin
and Bett King who was born in April 1791. He inherited a Maltings called the
Nova Scotia Maltings from his father in 1815 which he apparently sold when
the wet dock was to be created in 1818 and he is mentioned in his Mother's
will in 1827. I do not know if he married, had children or when he died.
I would be very happy to share any facts that I have to anyone else with an
interest in this family.
Best Wishes
Daphne Schober
