Hi Ken
surely these must be the Tacket Street building? It was lovely, as I recall,
but closed in about 1990 and was demolished shortly afterwards...

On the Savation Army UK talk site?
In May 1898 the Army opened a corps in Ipswich, Suffolk ("Ipswich
II"). This is recorded in the War Cry but no location is given; the Heritage
Centre have no record of where it was and when it closed. It would appear
that the Queensway corps, Ipswich, which opened in 1930 as Ipswich II and
later became Ipswich III, was its successor. Does anyone have any
information on the 1898 corps? I believe it may have been located by the
docks.
This was posted by the officer running the Community centre in Priory
Heath in Ipswich.
There are two cops in Ipswich the Citadel which is now in Woodbridge
Road but was in Tacket Street and the one on Bramford Road.
The Queensway site now occupieed by the Priory Centre was as Margaret
says a corps until it was closed and re opened as a Community Centre.
If anyone has any ideas I will pass them on.
If anyone has queries on ancesters in the Salvation Army I will try
and help
