John Steggall published what was supposed to be his life story in the 1850s but it was so fantastic, could it really be true?
Born in Creeting St. Mary, he was the son of a parson and ran away from a cruel school in Walsham le Willows to join up with some gipsies. He became involved in a shooting and ended up in Bury gaol. Following this and much more, he became a surgeon, a whale-fisher, a soldier in India and finally a parson. His story is set around the villages of mid-Suffolk; Wyverstone, Botesdale, Norton, Great Ashfield and others. We set out to edit down his story and to include our own detective work as to the truth of his story.
(We have plenty of pictures to go with it)
The book, published by Pawprint Publications costs £7.95, has 168 pages and over 70 pictures in colour & black and white. ISBN 0 9548298 0 8
