Thanks for this Neil. Pardon my ignorance, but is Pelham Aldrich one or two
persons ?
Is Pelham his first name ? John probably his son ?

The Crown was a copyhold tenency of the Manor Of Thorney Hall and while
looking at the manorial papers of which there is a good collection at
Ipswich RO I found these references -

Rental 1763-66 - Pelham Aldrich for a cottage in the occupation of
Christian Tricker called The Crown Inn

rental 1772 - Crown Inn - owner - Pelham [crossed out] John Aldrich
occupier -John Tricker

Deed 11 Dec 1811- "John Aldrich of Ipswich merchant in sum of £280 paid
by John Cobbold of Eye common brewer. All that undivided moiety or half
part messuage or tenement one orchard in Stowupland heretofore the
estate of Edward Beverley and Dorothy his wife and also all that
tenement adjoining in Stowupland heretofore the estate of Edward Bacon
which said John Aldrich had under the will of his father 2 July 1789"
rental 1811 - owner - Mr. Corbould [Cobbold, Ipswich brewer] occupier -
Wm. Battley
rental 1827 - owner Corbould occupier [Wm. Battley crossed out] Burch
rental 1847 - Robert Burch
1891 owner Cobbold & Co occupier Barnard
