Many years ago, my father (a native of Stowupland) complained that he had
almost been bitten by a poodle. My then fiancee, a girl from Farthest North
West Essex, asked me privately, what is a podle? I'm not sure this gets us
any further forrud.

And I don't think the letter O is the only vowel that causes confusion
around these parts. I suspect my PURR ancestors were sometines PARRs.
