Thank you very much for that valuable information. I wholeheartedly agree
with your sentiments regarding the cost of certificates etc. I shall now set
out to find a microfiche reader that I can beg, borrow or even buy cheaply!

Go to the link below, and download the PDF file for parish registers. The
fiche are available from the Suffolk Record Office, each Fiche is £2.50.
plus postage. Haughley is 28 fiche and Old Newton St Mary is 15 fiche. a
small investment. You then save on certificates at £7.00 a throw. The dates
are from the approx 1550-1900. They are worth every penny, to see the
information that are on the old registers, hopefully, the comments that are
entered in the margins. The big plus is that you get to see the signatures
of your ancestors for the marriages records, that is worth just for that,
even if they did sign with an X.

Just one other thing, you will need a microfiche reader. I have seen them at
carboots for just a few pounds, often there are adverts , that say "take it
away"
