Subject: Missing County on Civil Registration List
Hi, I wonder if anyone has come across this problem before?
I searchedScotland England and Wales Civil Registration Index 1837-1983 on Ancestry today for a troublesome marriage certificate, and used just the name of the husband and approximate date; and then waded through all the entries.
The good news is, I found it! the bad news is that the database missed off the area for this entry (typical!).
So all I have for the marriage of Samuel Spencer and Harriet Beeley is 1881 September quarter, 9c 624, which I suppose is useless without the County?
It is most likely Yorkshire, ( I hope) but since I've had such problems finding it (always using Yorkshire in the search) and it never showed up.
I think the only thing I can do is to send off for the certificate to Sheffield, but then if it's not right, I haven't gor a clue how to trace it.
Any suggestions from all you experts out there please?
A hopeful
Lesley
