Hi All

The list2 server on which Eng-Sheffield is hosted has had to be rebooted.
(probably the reason for the lack of messages received today). This takes
anything from a few hours to a few more hours to a lot more hours.
Hopefully, recently sent messages will be delivered shortly.

A few reminders especially for those new to the list

Sheffield Genealogy is the website belonging to Eng-Sheffield mailing list .
Lots of links to family history related informational webites / webpages can
be found by accessing "Sheffield Genealogy" website (url below). Anyone with
suggestions, advice, comments or material which would be of use to others
please contact me at

Please include your name and area of residence on all postings to the list.
Allowing other subscribers to know whereabouts you live is helpful when
responding to your queries.

Please always include a "Subject line" on all list postings. The "Subject
line" needs to be descriptive of your message content. eg. if you are
requesting a surname or area lookup then include the surname or area name in
the subject line. As recently suggested, messages (especially Digest mode)
with a subject of "Help Please [with the surname]" or "[name of area] look
up requested" will most likely be read by more subscribers than messages
with a subject such as simply "Help Please" or "Lookup requested".

Copying and pasting a small extract from the message to which you are
responding to will help act as a reminder to other subscribers which message
and which query your response is related to. Especially when the "Subject
lines" have the same text.
