Hi Judy,
Thanks for your input re my `Gone Missing` and my Edward ROBERTS disappeared
by 1891. Yes, George Ethelston was the owner of Llwyntidman Mill, Llanymynech
long before the 1880`s and my Edward ROBERTS was only a tenant of the mill in
1881 but by 1891 George must have decided to take over the operation of the
mill himself so it looks like Edward was kicked out and that`s when I have
lost him. The following snippet (below) may be of interest to other listers.
Your 1895 Kelly`s comes up with the goods once again!!
Regards, Keith.
Llwyntidmon Mill was built in 1856 and was a working Water Mill, remaining in
the ETHELSTON family until 1951. It was constructed from red brick with some
parts being black and white timbered, standing in 33.3 acres. It is a three
floored building comprising five bedrooms, this included one directly over
the Mill wheel where the rushing water of the brook could be heard. The Mill
was used by local farmers and remained functional until the early 1940s, when
ERNEST ETHELSTON sold the water rights for the sum of £95 whereupon the brook
was blocked off and put back to its original course. Upon ERNEST ETHELSTON's
death, Llwyntidmon Mill was sold for the sum of £5,000. It is possible that
during World War II, the Ministry used the Mill to store dried foods. As we
move into the year 2000, the Mill is still standing and is now a private
residence.
