Hi Jane,

Having recently returned from Ludlow, I wish I could help more.

I have a tourist street map only, which shows Lower Galdeford (not Gaolford),
leading off from Tower Street. St Lawrence is the main town church (with its
massive tower), so your ancestors would have lived very centrally.

I'm not sure exactly what a drainer would have done, but Ludlow is prone to
flooding from its two rivers.

Perhaps someone with more local knowledge could help, or you could try one of
the on-line street maps for Ludlow.
