I am looking for more information on my Transum/Transom/Trensham/Transome
family.

My gggrandmother was Ellen Bertha Transom who was born in Madeley,
Shropshire, England, March 21, 1866. She was living with her parents in 1880
in Campbell Co., Kentucky, USA. Her parents were James Transom and Anne
(Unknown) who was christened in Madeley in 1829. In 1880, James' occupation
was listed as a coke burner, which ties into the rich history of iron making
in this region.

James' parents were James Transum and Sophia Boden who were married in
Madeley, October 4, 1822. I found other possible children for this James and
Sophia Transum as Ann Transum, christened 2/26/1826; Betsey Transum,
christened 2/26/1826; Richard Transum, christened 5/27/1827; CharlesTransom,
christened 2/13/1831; and Joseph Transom, christened 8/19/1832. So, possible
marriages or allied families of these Transoms would be a find. (not sure if
Ann and Betsey were twins, the same child listed under different names, or
were just christened on the same date ...but I have identical twin girls
myself.)

I know there were also other Transom family members in Broseley, but I don't
know how they connect with mine at the moment.

I found that Jackfield might have been named for a Jacques Transom, who was a
Huguenot Lorrainer.

There were other Transoms in the 1600s, according to some LDS records, in
Madeley, and many in Broseley as well.

In John Randall's book, "Broseley and it's Surroundings" there is also
mention of a man by the name of Transom.

So, it looks like the Transom (and variant spellings) family was around for a
good 200 or so years in this area. Would anyone have come across any of
these names??

Blessings,

Jill Watters Rains
