There are a few personal records at the Shropshire Records Centre. I rescued
them and deposited them some years ago, but they were mostly from the early
20th century. Most were destroyed during a move to a new police station in
Shrewsbury around 1973. There is a card index that contains information on
officers. The staff may not know of it, so you need to ask for the Douglas Elliott
index. This was compiled by the late Douglas Elliott while researching his
book "Policing Shropshire 1836 - 1967". Richard Gough is not in Doug's book,
but there was a lot of excess material in the index.
Do not be confused by someone's comment about parish constables. They were a
different thing and from an age earlier than the one you are concerned about.
