Hi Dee,

Grasping at straws here but could Jane's place of birth be "Rhuhabon",
an attempt at spelling Ruabon?

1861 England Census
RG9/1808/70/31
Temporary Terrace, Colwall, Ledbury, Herefordshire
Thomas Edwards, Head, 49, abt 1812, Bishop Castle???, Shropshire,
England, Miner
Jane Edwards, Wife, 49, abt 1812, Ruabon, Denbighshire, Wales, Cook &
Manufter.???
John Edwards, Son, 22, abt 1839, Duffield, Derbyshire, England, Miner
Mary Ann Edwards, Dau, 14, abt 1847, Upholland, Lancashire, England, Scholar
Emma Edwards, Dau, 11, abt 1850, ???, Lancashire, England, Scholar

You really need to look at the 1851 census to confirm this. Do you know
Jane's maiden name?

I was puzzled as to why there were so many miners and navvies in
Colwall. The answer can be found on the BBC's Hereford & Worcester web
site. They were building the railway tunnel under the Malvern Hills.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester/features/malverns/new_malverns_railways.shtml

That could explain the "Temporary Terrace" and the number of cooks as
well! Housing set up just for the workers?

But is this the same family in 1871??? If so that places of birth are
very different!

1871 England Census
Appleby St Michael and Bongate, Westmorland
Thomas Edwards, Head, 58, abt 1813, Warwickshire, England, Railway Labourer
Jane Edwards, Wife, 57, abt 1814, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England
Emma Edwards, Dau, 21, abt 1850, Manchester, Lancashire, England

I know you've mentioned Westmorland before, for the Nightingales.

Ian
