Hi Sue

I think you might be better off asking on the Dorset List as I believe
that Misterton was also included in the census for Dorset and doesn't
appear to have been included in Gordon Beavington's transcript for
Somerset.

Only 2 mentions of GUDGE:

GUDGE / JUDGE John 54 Weaver Somerset, Misterton

who is living in South Petherton - so it looks as though you might be on
the right track as he was born Misterton.

The other is for:

GUDGE Sarah Ellen Visitor 15 Visitor Natherbry Dorset /
Winsham 51 (CD7)

Presumably this is supposed to be Netherbury - a village just down the
road from the Beaminster you refer to.

Regret this is one of the anomalies of UK research - census districts
also cross county boundaries as they were linked to registration
districts, which were in turn linked to the post 1834 Poor Law Union
Districts: the Somerset RO archives site states that Misterton came
under Beaminster for the Poor Law Union - so this rather confirms my
suspicion.

I've got the index for the Bridport, Dorset area, but unfortunately not
for Beaminster, but I'm sure someone on the Dorset list will have the
info.
