Subject: [ENG-SOM] Martlock Criminals?
Date: Wed, 2 Jul 2003 22:58:12 +0000

Hello Listers,
I came across an entry in the Archives referring to a Thomas STURMEY who was accused of stealing a large amount of meat from a woman in MARTLOCK in 1661.
He was accused along with another man called HATKINS.
What is unusual is that there was a STURMEY Family member in the area at this time. I have found some in Bath, but nowhere else in Somerset.
So has anyone any records, circa that year, that may show any STURMEY members there? Or was he a one off, and possibly just visiting the area? Possibly from Dorset.
Richard Parsons
