Most of the immigrant ships sailed from Liverpool. My Somerset ancestor
emigrated to the USA in 1858, sailing from Liverpool to New York (as did my
Cambridgeshire ancestors in 1853, and my Swedish ancestors in the 1870s).
I looked at film of more than a year's worth of passenger arrival lists at
New York. Liverpool was the origin of most ships from the British Isles. I
noted some from London, but they had no more than a dozen passengers - these
were probably cargo ships so had no facilities for large numbers of
passengers.
