Paul, Here are a few answers or at least suggestions for further research ....

Re: 2
There is a history/description of Pitcombe at
http://www.country-breaks.com/towns/pitcombe.htm
Hadspen Houise gardens are open to the public -
www.penelopehobhouse.com/hadspen.htm and
www.hadspengarden.freeserve.co.uk/

Re: 3 & 4
See below ...
Re: 6
The Somerset Record Office holds various documents relating to
Pitcombe/Hadspen - see the online catalogue at
http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/dservea/ - including the "Probate of
will of William Greenstock - Pitcombe" 1857 (ref DD\BT/18/2)

Re: 10.
Pitcombe and Hadspen are just outside Bruton. Although Sexeys Trade School
in Bruton was not founded (by Hobhouse of Hadspen) until 1889, the Kings
School in Bruton was founded in 1519 -
http://www.kingsbruton.org.uk/kingsbruton.htm

Hope these are useful.
