William SMART was born in Faringdon, Berkshire on 1 January 1801. In the
1841 census for Weston-Super-Mare, William is listed as a butcher in the
High Street with his wife Anna their and sons William C and Charles.

In the 1851 census, William is still a butcher in the High Street, aged 51.
His wife, Anna, is shown as born in Locking, Somerset, aged 66. (The 15 year
age gap is confirmed by later censuses). Also listed in the household is a
Maria COOME (age 30, born Banwell), shown as a niece. Sons William and
Charles no longer reside with their parents; Charles is also listed in
Weston Super Mare
High Street with his wife Sophia and son William T Smart. Charles’
occupation is also butcher, aged 22 and born in Weston-Super-Mare.

I have made enquiries of Weston-Super-Mare FHS, Somerset & Dorset FHS and
Bristol & Avon FHS to try to find the marriage of William SMART and Anna.
One of the marriages suggested by Bristol & Avon was that of William
SMART and Anna COOMBE, at St Thomas, Bristol on 5 April 1825. William’s
occupation is butcher. Could this be the marriage I am looking for?

I would be glad to hear from anyone researching this family, or anyone who
can confirm that an Anna COOM(B)E was baptised in Locking c.1875/6.
