Subject: [ENG-SOM] SAMUEL + HENRY SAGE, BRISTOL CHANNEL PILOT,EMPRESS OF INDIA, 1881
Date: Thu, 6 Nov 2008 22:52:18 -0000
Hi,
Can anyone help us?
On 1881 census SAMUEL SAGE (born Pill, Somerset) was master / pilot on board the Empress of India, docked in Ilfracombe, Devon at the time. His younger brother Henry was also on board.
Can anyone confirm what sort of boat the Empress of India was?
We've tried to find a copy of the Bristol Channel Pilots book but have failed. Can anyone tell us if these people or this boat are mentioned in it?
Any other related information would be warmly received too.
Thanks,
Pippa + Richard (Sage) in Brighton
