Subject: GRO transcription mistakes - possible?
Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 22:30:18 +1000
Hello all,
I have received a marriage certificate from the GRO and am "almost" certain it is the right one....right groom, right age, right place, right father's name, and right in the fact that father and son share the same occupation.
Here's the hitch....
The GRO Cert. shows them both as Puddler(s), whereas they were both Painter(s). Given that both start in P and end in ER with a vowel or two before an upright letter (d's and a t), I am wondering whether the transcriber at the GRO may have mis-read the word.
Has anyone else had this experience, and is there some way to check it?
Regards
