Hi Linda

Yes, we have been in touch before, about a year ago and it was good to see a
name I recognised come up on the Samford list.

Sadly we couldn't then make a connection between our Coopers but that
doesn't mean we have to give up trying. I am including my original interests
post to the Samford list and you will see that there still doesn't appear to
be a connection!

Best wishes

Rosemarie

Firstly Michael, a public thank you for setting up this list. Hopefully once
it gets going, it will provide a forum and idea exchange for all of us with
an interest in this area of Suffolk. Now to my interests;-

My cousin and I have been researching our Cock(e)rill, Cooper and Webster
ancestors who came from various parishes in the Samford district.

Our gg grandmother was Sarah COOPER b. 1829 in Chelmondiston. In July 1853,
in Shotley, Sarah married Nathaniel MANHOOD. Their second daughter, Emma b.
1858 in Harwich, Essex, is my great grandmother. Their only son, Nathaniel
b. 1856 in Harwich, immigrated to Tasmania and he is the great grandfather
of Ronald Manhood, my third cousin.

Sarah’s parents were William Cooper, bap. 24 Dec 1797 and Hannah COCKERILL,
b. abt. 1880. They were married 16 May 1819 in Chelmondiston. William’s
parents were John Cooper and Sarah WEBSTER, married 2 Nov 1788 in Holbrook.
We know of one other son, Robert Cooper, bap. 8 Aug 1802.

William Cooper and Hannah Cockerill had seven other children, all baptised
in Chelmondiston;-
Hannah, bap. 24 Dec 1820. On 22 Aug 1845 in Shotley, Hannah married Thomas
ELY
Elizabeth, bap. 1 May 1825
William, bap. 18 May 1826
John, b. abt. 1832
Rebecca, b. abt. 1836
George, b. abt 1838
Anne, b. 11 Dec 1839

In 1864 Sarah (Cooper) Manhood was widowed and on 6 March 1866 in Stepney,
London, she married Stephen COCKRILL. Stephen, bap. 11 May 1820 in
Chelmondiston, appears to be Sarah’s cousin. His parents were William
Cockrill and Sarah. At the moment we presume that William Cockrill and
Hannah Cockerill, Sarah’s mother, were brother and sister.

We should be more than pleased to hear from anyone who has connections to
this family and can either help us to find out more about our Cockrill
ancestors or thinks that we can help them.
