I think my G-Grandmoth Emily Austin died in the Metrolpolitan Asylum, Caterham,
in 1917. The age and name fit but frustratingly her death certificate says
"Wife of ........."! What tipped me off to look for her death then was my
G-Grandfather Richard de Bruno Austin made a new will that year and I noticed
she was not mentioned.
I had guessed that conditions must have been grim in the Asylum but the
comments on this thread bring it home even more. Her cause of death was shown
as 'dementia' which I gather was a very broad term.
