Subject: [SRY] CERTIFICATES

A friend of mine that does family history suggested to me that if I needed certificates it was sometimes more beneficial to contact registrars direct as opposed to ordering via the FRC or Southport.
On Monday I was looking up references in the GRO indexes at Aylesbury and on Tuesday I sent off for what I wanted (quoting the references of course) Yesterday (Friday) I received my mothers birth certificate from the Borough of Camden and today | received the two marriage certificates I was after from Lambeth. I'm seriously impressed with the service!
The Camden office also seemed prepared to check up on other information for me (although I did not ask for masses) I only wanted my mothers birth certificate from 1902 as I knew her sister's certificate in 1903 would carry the same information. However, as they were registered in the same parish (Pancras) and my aunt was only born 16 months later I asked if they would be kind enough to check if the address was the same for both. Glad I asked because I had assumed it would be the same and it wasn't. (I really must stop assuming when dealing with family history!)
If anybody is interested in this information the address for Camden is:
Camden Council, Town Hall, Judd Street, London WC1H 9JE and cheques should be made
payable to the London Borough of Camden
Lambeth: London Borough of Lambeth, 357-361 Brixton Road, SW9 7DA and cheques should be
made payable to the London Borough of Lambeth
In all instances my certificates cost me £6.50 each. It may of course cost more if you do not supply GRO references. However, hopefully this information may be of use to others.
