I have recently discovered that a WILLIAM BURR was tried as co-defendant
with my 3xgreat grandfather at Surrey Quarter Sessions on 14th July 1818 and
both were sentenced to 7 years transportation to Australia.
My ancestor arrived in Van Dieman's Land in April 1819, aboard the ship
Surry. I can't find any record of this William Burr arriving. The pair of
them stole 6 loaves of bread in a basket from a fellow named James Unwin at
St Mary's parish Battersea and both of them came from there.
If anyone recognises this WIlliam Burr or Burre, I would love to hear from
you.
Also - is there any way of finding out where a family lived in St Mary's
parish in the 1815-1820 time frame, or of any deaths in the area in the same
time frame for the following people:-
Walter Simpson & wife Sarah
Sarah Simpson daughter of Walter & Sarah (born in 1810)
thanks
