One of my Grandmother's sisters was born in Godalming 1883 -
near Guildford. The little mite was dropped head first into a coal
scuttle, resulting in brain damage. She was placed in an institution.
No one later knew what became of her.
Possible institutions may be:
workhouses at Guildford, Chertsea, Kingston & an asylum at Caterham.
(There are others, but thought these the more likely from the little I know)
Where would records exist for these institutions - if available?
Do these places still exist today, perhaps under another name?
I know it's a long time ago, but I would love to try and find where
she spent her life and when she died. In my mind, it would be
putting her to rest.
