To answer part of your question:
Joshua Allder founded his store in 1862. In 1908 it was taken over by J.W.
Holdron & F.C.Bearman; In 1921 the Lawrence family purchased it. In 1958 it
became part of United Drapery Stores (UDS) which in turn was purchased in
1983 by Lord Hanson.
In 1989 management purchased the group, and in 1993 it went on the FTSE. In
2002 Scarlett Retail purcdhased the entire group but it went bankrupt in
2005 and all stores were sold off individually. Harold Tillman purchased
Allders in Croydon and the right to trade under that name.
