Dear Bob
Many Laleham registrations at this time seem to be in Staines registers;
while from 1696-1710 there is a separate section in Ashford registers
for Laleham. Certainly it is worth looking in these parishes (there are
copies at Woking of them too, the originals being at London Metropolitan
Archives). Unfortunately, very very few bishops transcripts survive for
Middlesex parishes before 1800, and none for Laleham. What do survive
are also at London Metropolitan Archives and WSFHS (which is buying
copies of London Metropolitan Archives films of Surrey parish registers
for use at Surrey History Centre at Woking) has not yet bought the films
of the BTs that do survive, largely because they are a very poor
collection and only in very few cases cover anything not available in
the parish registers.

I have recently been doing some research on the WICKS family of Laleham,
but have come to a halt as there seems to be a gap in the registers held
at Woking for the period from the 1680s-1690s (depending on the event)
to 1744.

Has anyone used an alternative source for Laleham information in this
period (e.g. Bishop's Transcripts)?

Bob Brock
