Thank you Brian and Mary for your suggestions. I am not aware that George
and Maria HANSON were married by licence, but your explanation Brian was
very interesting and helps with an earlier relative who married by licence,
and explains why they may have done so.

I am really still no wiser as to why George and Maria married at St
Bartholomews, and am working on the possibility that Maria PARKES may have
come originally from the Edgbaston side of Birmingham and had family
connections there. I have only just found this marriage and haven't done
any research on Maria as yet.
