I hope you dont mind me replying but I used to live not far from Sparkhill
in Birmingham and the name Bastock rings a bell. I think there is a Funeral
Director of that name. Maybe you could look online at www.192.com and see
if you can find them that way.
I wish you luck.
Regards
Rita

Subject: [B'ham] Please help me find my half-brother, Alfred James
Bastock

Hello Listers,
I have spent nearly all day going through the BDM on the www.1837online.com
link.
I have been able to find just about everything I am looking for except any
record of the birth of my half-brother, Alfred James BASTOCK, born either
late 1922 or early part of 1923--it is more likely to be the later.

My mom (now deceased) told me that his mother had died while giving birth to
him and that my dad, also named Alfred James BASTOCK, allowed his brother
Ben and his wife to adopt him--a long story why.

Young Alf and I were raised to think of each other as cousins; I knew the
true story early on, but as far as I know, he was never told. He would be
about 80 now. There were no other children born from that marriage.

I believe I have found the record of marriage and death for dad's first wife
and young Alf's mom:

Marriage: BASTOCK, Alfred J. to Mabel DRENNAN, district of W. Derby, 8b.
321
Marriage registered: Jan. Feb. March. qtr. 1921

I also believe I have found Mabel's death notice:
BASTOCK, Mabel, 25, W. Derby.
Reg. Jan. Feb. March qtr. 1923.

I have tried different ways of spelling the name but without luck. I even
looked at other names and watched for the surname of his mother--which, I am
happy to say, was listed with each registered infant. Nothing.

I know that my uncle Ben didn't want Alfred to know that he was adopted; it
was one promise he made my dad keep: never to tell him that he was his
biological father. By now Alfred could be dead but there may be children of
his trying to piece together their family tree and wondering why the pieces
don't fit. I would like to find them and help them fill in some of the
blanks.

I am sending this message to both the Warwickshire and Liverpool lists
because my dad's family are from Warwickshire. Dad was born, and grew up in
Liverpool--as did many of his older siblings. My grandfather, Alfred
Frederick BASTOCK, was born in Spark Hill, Warwick.

Any suggestions as to where next to look would be greatly appreciated.
The BDM's site I went to states that all the names are listed there. It's a
real puzzle.

Thanks so much. Many of you have been helpful in the past and I'm hoping
someone can come up with a solution for this one.

Kindest regards,
Lilian
