Greetings Rose:

I am researching my wife's maternal family (LIGGITT and ROBERTS) who lived
in and around the
Birmingham Area. I have Russell's in the ROBERTS family piece of the puzzle.
The ROBERT's were
from Birmingham, living primarily in the Winson Green area. However, I have
precious little about the Russell's

To make a long story even shorter, my ADA ROBERTS (b ±1876) married a CLAUDE
HENRY RUSSELL (b ±1878)
in the June Quarter of 1898 in Birmingham. ADA and CLAUDE HENRY RUSSELL had
one child, GWENDOLEN MARY
RUSSELL in the March Quarter of 1899. The 1901 Census shows Claude as a
Locomotive Engine Driver.
I have nothing else much about that family until 1920 when the family
travelled to New York aboard
the S.S. Caronia , arriving in New York on June 21, 1920. Claude was shown
as a 42 year old "Manager",
Ada a 43 year old "Housewife" and Gwendoline a 20 year old "Clerk". Closest
relatives, both in the country leaving and the country coming to, were all
Ada's ROBERTS family. However, they intended on staying in the
USA.

Ada seems to have returned to England in 1923 as she returned to New York in
September 0f 1923, travelling with a cousin VERNA AMABEL EATON who was a 40
year old teacher.

Thought I would just touch bases since this is the first time I have seen
the RUSSELL name come up. Always like to "grab at straws".

Hi,

I am new to this list. I am trying to trace my Russell family from the
Aston / Deritend / St. Martins area of Birmingham. The family originally
came
from Worcester. William Russell b. Worcester abt 1815 settled in
Birmingham
with his wife Mary Ann Gould between 1851-1861. William was a Coach
Painter.
His father was also William Russell born about 1783 and his occupation was
that of a China Painter and Guilder at the Worcester Porcelain Factory.

In 1861 William Russell and Mary Ann Gould were living in Nelson St. in the

parish of St. Martin. They had 10 children (some may not have reached
adulthood). Their children were : Charles (b.1837), Charlotte (b. 1840),
William
(b.1842), Angelina (b.1844), Alfred (b.1846), Albert (b.1848), John
(b.1850),
Sarah Emma (b. 1853), Herbert (b. 1856) and Joseph (b. 1858).

Ideally I would love to find living relatives of these 10 children. My
great great grandfather was the Charles Russell b. 1837 also a Coach
Painter. I
have heard a story that one member of the family used to run a pub in
Deritend.

Any help really appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Rose
Surrey / UK
