In the 1891 census of Westmorland my g.g.grandmother Elizabeth Langhorn,
( nee Barker ) was a visitor at Marton House, Long Marton.
The Head of the household was Emma C. Courtenay. Aged 70 and her son
Reginald
Courtenay aged 30.
I was not aware of any family link between the Courtenay's and the
Barker's until I found a reference in the Long Marton parish records for
baptisms: April 13, 1930 Baptised- John Charles Cutforth
Barker-Courtenay, son of
Charles William Fowler Barker-Courtenay, Esquire and Dorothy Margaret
Barker-Courtenay. Marton House.
There are no other Barker-Courtenay births registered at Long Marton.
I wondered if anyone had any information about the previous occupants of
Marton
House.
Kind regards,
Dean.
