Hi Elsbeth

Kirkland was a community in its own right (older, in fact, than Kendal),
until it was absorbed within the growing boundaries of Kendal many years
ago. Peppercorn Lane is in the area of Kendal still known as Kirkland -
there is only one Peppercorn Lane.

There is still a Quaker presence in the town, plus an old Quaker burial
ground, and the Kendal Record Office might also be able to help.

The KRO is at: http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/archives/knrec.asp

The Friends Meeting House is at: http://www.quaker-tapestry.co.uk/index.htm

Good luck with your search!

Cheers,
Nigel
