Sarah: I will scan the one page which mentioned" The History of Westmoreland" and send it to you off line in order to let you know the type of documents available. They constitute part of a file on the Ewebanks of Brough and Stainmore. http://www.hmc.gov.uk/nra/searches/FEdocs.asp?FER=83578 This is the site pertaining to the above, from which I ordered the six pages that were suitable for copying.
http://www.hmc.gov.uk/nra/searches/FEdocs.asp?FER=86742 This site pertaining to my Gt. Gt. Grandfathers father-in-law, the one I really wanted to see, is apparently in such a fragile condition that the collection of the seven (7) boxes of documents are unsuitable for copying and I assume therefore that even visual perusal, allowing for manual transcribing, would not be possible.
Finally, I found this information by looking under the families section of the Cumbria Records of Kendal, which appears under A2A site:-http://www.a2a.org.uk/about/contributors/index.asp#top Thank you for your interest. Terry Alderson P.S. I was just notified that my e-mail to your e-mail address was rejected so I guess you'll never get to see my scan... so there!!

Terry, I recently sent the Kendal RO a CD of all the stuff we have transcribed, and my maps, and he was very grateful. Let me see if he would let us copy the book so we could transcribe it and send it back to him on CD. You never know!!!!
What were the other documents?
Sarah

Alan. Thanks for your offer. I am heading down to our reference Library this
week, who claim to have a copy--I hope they are better than our politicians
who promise everything but...................! Actually, I only became aware
of the book following receipt of 6 pages of information I got from the
Kendal Archives at a cost of Cdn $25.00 which only supplied a list of
documents for which there are additional charges for each and every item
listed on the six pages! The book was mentioned in a description of one of
those articles relating to the father-in-law of my gt.gt.grandfather one Dr
Dalston Ewebank so to be frank, I would have to peruse the book in order to
determine just what would be of interest. Again, costs at our libraries for
copying only amount to 50c or 20p per page and there are also facilities
available at the library whereby one can scan any page and e-mail it (or
them) to my own e-mail address at considerably lest cost. As an aside to my
original request but connected to the aforementioned Dr Dalston, I read in
the electronic version of the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald of March
12/04 that the current owner of Borrenthwaite Hall in North Stainmore had
been arrested on charges of operating a brothel in Darlington and that it is
entirely possible that the ancestral home of Dr Dalston, namely
Borrenthwaite Hall may be seized and perhaps sold. All this goes to show
that current scandals can also have a connection with searches on one's
forefathers! Terry Alderson----- Original Message -----
