Hi folks,

I am trying to transcribe a shoemaker's account currently for sale on eBay
at

There are some bits I find difficult to work out / read and I would
appreciate some help!

I am particularly dubious about the person who signed the receipt at the
bottom - it sort of looks like M MUNDALL but I am not sure about the initial
and about the beginning of the surname - and I can't find a suitable MUNDALL
/ MANDALL / MANDLE in the 1871 census.

John HEWER, shoemaker, lived in Penrith in 1871, so this MUNDALL guy should
have been living in that area as well.

I'm also not sure about the frequently mentioned "Ms M" - I'm pretty sure
she was a female MUSGRAVE but to my knowlege "Ms" wasn't yet used in those
days!

Below is my transcription so far - and I should be grateful for any help
where there are question marks, and corrections of any mistakes. Sorry but
some of the formatting goes askew in plain text.

Ms has been in use since the 17th Century, but was usually a shortening of
Mistress rather than Mrs.
It went out of favour in the late 19th century only to come back in the
20th.

Petra and Barb - I came up with the name Grundall as well, but was a bit
slow in sending a message to that effect!

I agree that "Ms" is likely a short form for "Mrs." - and it could also have
been used to mean "Mistress" which was a title often used in those days.
