Subject: [WISBECH] Angier/Anger family

Dear All,

I am trying to trace the origins of William Anger and his family. He was married to Sarah Peake in Whittlesey in 1683. I understand the family were weavers/drapers.

I understand also that they may have come from Emneth or Fincham and were originally Huguenots. The name spelling is always phonetically spelt and pronounced with a soft 'a' and a soft 'g' as in angel. Other phonetic variations are Angier, Angeir, Aungier and Aunger. The name settled on Ainger as far as my family records are concerned in 1756.

Many thanks!

Tom
