Hi all

Re Wisbech Baptist records:

A few years ago, I was researching my Clarke ancestors in
Wisbech, and printed off several pages of the Records of the
General Baptist Church 1700-1837. I could look up names on
those pages if anyone is curious about Baptist ancestors. I
don't have a list of the names (other than Clarke) that
appear, but send me a name and I'll have a look.

There is a fascinating page, which I have in both type and
longhand, which shows that the church's internal relations
weren't always harmonious, but they did their best to
reconcile thier differences; the longhand page even has some
evidence that they wept as they wrote and signed it (either
that, or they had a very poor quality pen and an unstable
inkwell!):

"Memorandum, July 22nd 1776

At our church meeting it was then agreed that we should
strive to bury all our former words and acts of misconduct
one towards another in oblivian and absolutely forgive one
another, and them that strives to bring up and repeat the
subjects that have been the cause of dispute in away of
anger shall be deemed agressers and submit to the censure of
the church. As witness our hand this day above written.
John Proud Eldr
John Ropson
William Clearke
Frances York
Robert Hill
Simon Medworth
George York"

William Clarke was my G5 grandfather

Meanwhile, I'm now hunting for Bridget Berry, who married
Jeremiah Hills in Leverington in 1768. Does anyone have any
information on her parents, please, maybe in Wisbech
records?

Cheers, Mary
