Hi Helen

Thanks for the advice re scanners. At the moment mine is sat on the desk
saying "please hook me up". I'm just putting off the moment! :-).

The two books I have I acquired from my Mother's bookshelves. They are "Old
Worcester, People and Places" by H W Gwilliam, Volumes One & Two.

The Foreword states:-

"This book was published by Rose Hill House Teachers' Centre, Worcester
mainly for the benefit of teachers in the Worcester area who wished to bring
to life the teaching of local history. Some four hundred copies have been
produced for schools and further copies have been made available to the
author for sale and distribution to other interested persons and societies.
This book is one of these copies....."

Mr Gwilliam is a local history in Worcester who has written various books on
the area, some of which I am sure are still in print. One was certainly on
the shelves in W H Smiths when I was in Worcester earlier this year.

My Mother is interested in local history (unfortunately her memory is not
what it used to be) and is a member of the Worcester Archaeological Society.
Now I always associated archaeology with digging up of ancient artefacts but
the transcripts of the society cover all sorts of topics if you have the
time to go through them to find what you want. I don't know if they have
any sort of cumulative index. Both Worcester Records Office and Worcester
City Library have copies - not that that is much use when we are in New
Zealand!

Regards

Patricia
